A Case Report on a 14-year Old Male Patient Who Recovered From Gramoxone Poison After Early Hemodialysis Intervention
Introduction
Background: Paraquat is the active ingredient in Gramoxone that causespoisoningthat usually leads to fatal outcomes in patients whoingestedGramoxone. Early preemptive Hemodialysis and aggressivemedicalmanagement with Antioxidants medications (Vitamin C & E, N-acetylcysteine [NAC]) and Anti-inflammatorymedications(Cyclophosphamide, Dexamethasone, Colchicine) can help inthe recovery of such patients.
Case
Case report: A 14- year old male patient who was managed at GPHC forGramoxonepoison. During his 14 days stay he had initial oral ulcers,rise in KFT [Kidney Function Test] and LFT [Liver Function Test] thatlaterplateau and return to normal as he received earlypreemptiveHemodialysis and aggressive medical management as outlinedabove.
Results
Conclusion: This Patient’s recovery probably hinges on the mild amount ofGramoxonePoison ingested or due to early preemptive Hemodialysisand aggressivemedical management.

Recommendation: The urgent need for Gramoxone Poisoning Protocol in InternalMedicineDepartment, GPHC that utilizes early preemptiveHemodialysis andaggressive medical management.
