Anesthetic Management of a Patient With Undiagnosed Arthrogryposis. A Casereport
Introduction
Arthrogryposis is a rare congenital disorder with contracture in two or more
joints. Corrective surgery is needed, and perioperative care can be challenging for
Anesthesiologists.
Objectives
To discuss the anesthetic considerations for arthrogryposis.
Case Report: An undiagnosed arthrogryposis, pediatric patient who underwent corrective
limb surgery and had trouble awakening from anesthesia.
Method: A descriptive narrative of the anesthetic management of patients presenting for
corrective limb surgery at West Demerara Regional Hospital with an accompanying review
of literature on anesthetic considerations for arthrogryposis and associated outcomes.
Conclusion
Arthrogryposis is a rare disorder. Anesthesiologists must know about this
disorder to provide optimum anesthetic care.
