Isolated Vulvar Varices of the Labia Majora. A Case Report and Discussion of the Obstetric Impact of a Rare Genital Vascular Anomaly
Introduction
Vulvar varices, in isolation of pathologies of the surrounding pelvic
vasculature, are rare.
Objectives
To discuss the best obstetric practices for a patient with isolated vulvar varices.
Method: Descriptive narrative of history and management. Literature review and analysis of
best obstetric practices.
Case report: 22-year-old, 2 prior vaginal deliveries and repairs, term pregnancy, and
isolated varices to left labia majora. Management: coached, controlled vaginal delivery.
Conclusion
Mode of delivery: provider privilege. Vaginal delivery is preferred; cesarean
delivery if there is an anticipated difficulty to maintain hemostasis from significant vascular
compromise and limited resources.
