Non-caseous Granuloma in Drug Abuse: A Case Study of a Teenagepatient
Introduction
The discussion of granulomatous diseases in the context of drug abuse is an
incredibly compelling and thought-provoking topic, as it adds insight into the potential
ramifications of drug misuse on the overall functioning of the body. In particular, this study
delves into the formation of non-caseous granuloma in a vulnerable teenager.
Problems highlighted : A more holistic approach should be offered to drug abuse patients to
achieve a better outcome.
Case presentation: Male patient 16 years old with a history of family neglect and cocaine abuse
who presented with a productive cough and subjective fever for 2 months.
Results
Histopathology findings showed brain edema, severe pulmonary edema, alveolar
hemorrhage, hemosiderin-laden macrophages, congestion, granulomas in lung and lymph
nodes, reactive hepatitis, acute tubular necrosis, and renal infarction.
Conclusion
The histopathological findings were consistent with those found in the literature
for intravenous drug users, including cocaine abuse.
