Undiagnosed Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma in Pregnancy with Spontaneous Abortion and Ovarian Torsion. A Case Report

Introduction

Background: Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma (OMCT) in pregnancy is rare. Spontaneouspregnancy loss and ovarian torsion are consequences.

Objectives

Objective: To discuss the best management for OMCT.

Case

Case report: 32-year-old with recurrent pregnancy loss and abdominalpain. Previously undetected with CT scan suggestive of OMCT andtorsion. Exploratory laparotomy done with oophorectomy.

Method

Method: Descriptive narrative of history and medical / surgicalmanagement. Review of existing literature with analysis of bestmedical / surgicalpractices.

Conclusion

Conclusion: OMCT is rare in pregnancy; histological analysis is definitive.Surgery isdefinitive but may be influenced by fertility preservation.
